Rockenwagner 3 Square Cafe located on Abbot Kinney in Venice, Ca is a cute cozy indoor/outdoor place serving Only fresh organic food from local farmers markets. They offer breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Chris and myself happened to go to dinner the first night we arrived in Venice. It was a little cool outside so we thought sitting outside wasn't an option but almost every place with outdoor seating in California comes accompanied with heat lamps! It was a romantic setting and the view of the abbot kinney street although just a street is lined with beautiful shops and other fine eateries and bakeries. I am a big fan of eating organic so this place which I scoped out prior to the trip appealed to my interest as well as taste buds. The dinner menu wasn't big but offered a variety of items in which everyone would be pleased. For starters there are options for seafood, spinach salad, a warm Brussels sprout salad with dates, avacado fries with a fire-roasted salsa (which I wish I tried!) we decided on the fried artichokes with their own dipping sauce. You could just tell the artichoke hearts were so fresh and they were perfectly fried and the sauce complimented the hearts so well and added a great flavor to the tasty bites. For dinner they have a variety of unique burgers on their home-made braided buns. How about a pretzel burger with caramel used onions and Swiss or a Quinoa burger with bell peppers and sautéed spinach perfect balance of a healthy yet sinful pairing! For the seafood lovers they have on their menu currently (because it changes frequently depending on what's fresh and available that day!) an almond-crusted trout with lemon. They also offer spatzle which I believe is a German dish I actually saw Tyler Florence preparing this on the cooking channel! Chris decided to give it a go and ordered the short rib over the spatzle. Spatzle is soft in texture and is an egg noodle. The short rib was cooked in a wonderfully tasting red sauce that not only flavored the short rib but also flavored those delicate noodles. His short rib was so tender and juicy. I ordered the half chicken breast which came with fresh garlic bread and a salad. That chicken breast oh man was the best I've ever had! So tender full of flavor cooked perfectly and plenty of meat! I enjoyed every bit of it. Of course traveling and going out to eat with me doesn't just stop at what you order for your main course it's sure I'd love to look at a dessert menu. Every option had my mouth watering we decided on the creme brûlée with fresh berries. Nothing like a perfect creme brûlée has a slight crispy top but the inside so soft and creamy and the flavor is a huge factor in which 3 squares was on the $. 3 square cafe is a consistent fresh cafe that changes their menu frequently, offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and has some norm menu items but so many more unique items that you may never see at any other place. Their combinations are intriguing, their choices unlimited and atmosphere delightful. So if in the Venice area don't be square just stop there :) ok that was corny but seriously it's all about delicious consistent food!
