Doughboys Cafe and Bakery

This cafe located in the heart of Los Angeles on West 3rd Street, offers a plethora of options for those who are in search for a delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. Doughboy's menu is extensive and what is unique about this hot spot, are their personal names for each dish as well as the detailed descriptions that follow. For breakfast they offer so many mouthwatering pancake creations as well as several options for griddlecakes. To name a few, banana pecan butterscotch pancakes for those of you waking up with a sweet tooth, or how about their blueberry flax seed griddlecakes? Sinful with a taste of organic goodness! Looking at their griddle choices a particular menu item sounded scrumptious, the "pan toast: one of our better creations... start with cinnamon rolls and flaky croissants. chop them up and soak them in an egg and vanilla bean custard. then cook them like pancakes. top them any way you like...they'll be great!" If you enjoy a sweet treat at anytime of the day like myself Doughboy's has breakfast items that are sure to have you drooling and coming back for more! Also available for breakfast are creative egg dishes, including frittata's, scrambles, breakfast quesadillas, omelet's lighter fair, and even homemade muesli!! Unfortunately for myself and Chris we did not get the chance to indulge in a Doughboy's breakfast, but we did however stop in for lunch. I have never seen a menu with so many sandwich concoctions and always available freshly made soups! Sandwiches were served on their fresh baguette or their pan de mie bread which is something in my personal opinion a huge factor in what can establish an unforgettable sandwich from one that you will forget once you walk out the doors! Their were french dip, tuna melt, caprese, prosciutto with camembert (type of cheese) and so much more. I had read from previous reviews, because that's what I do :) that their french onion soup was simply the best and to die for. Chris and myself being a huge fan of french onion soup collectively decided that he would order a bowl of the cheesy hearty comforting soup and we would individually order a sandwich and salad. Being a fan of artichoke I ordered the artichoke sandwich which consisted of chopped artichokes, diced tomato, green onion and shredded asiago cheese tossed with a pesto vinaigrette on their hollowed out french baquette served with their home made cole slaw. Every part of this sandwich was delicious to the fresh ingredients to the light pesto and melted asiago cheese. The cole slaw was the best i've ever tasted from any restaurant and it was a huge portion! Chris ordered his french onion soup with a chopped salad. When his plate was put on that table I immediately wanted to grab my spoon and attack that bubbling overflowing french swiss cheese, as soon as he took the first bite it was my turn, us girls understand flavor, this onion soup was in fact to die for and I truly would die for it, well that's going a little too far but I certainly would do crazy things for it. The french baguette was perfect for dipping and before we knew it the soup bowl was empty the bread was gone and Chris was left with a beautifully chopped salad with a fresh spread of bright green avocado. This salad was a perfect light compliment to a rich in flavor and filling french onion soup. Typically I would find the room to order a dessert or a sweet but I just couldn't force myself to make room. I do wish we got to try their famous and I mean famous as it is Rosie O'donnell's ultimate favorite, red velvet cake. Doughboy's not only has an unlimited menu with a list of mouthwatering, exciting, playful and unforgettable dishes made with only fresh ingredients it is also a perfect cute place to eat indoors or outdoors and enjoy the California sunshine and cafe atmosphere. Chris and myself will certainly be making a second trip this month and fortunately for Chris I will be happily forcing the red velvet cake down our throats :)
